Massira Keita

"Initially, I just wanted to draw. Then, I started getting feedback from Instagram followers who wanted to wear my illustrations on their T-shirts."

In 2012, illustrator Massira Keita launched her blog with the desire to share her drawings and creations. At the time, she customized Vans. Propelled by the Instagram platform, she continued her progress and opened an online store to sell sweatshirts, T-shirts, pouches, phone cases, and more.

Inspired by wax prints and contemporary fashion, Massira Keita draws faceless characters to allow for identification.

"My mission is to highlight and celebrate Black women through art. You often find groups of women, duos, trios. They represent unity, strength, kindness, sisterhood, and love."

"My work also showcases the diverse hairstyles, complexions, and beauty of Black women. Since facial features are not drawn, it allows everyone to identify themselves or let their imagination run free."

As the director and founder of her eponymous brand, an illustrator, painter, and textile designer, Massira Keita draws silhouettes of women, men, and children. The characters have no faces. This allows everyone to identify with them.

In addition to drawing, she creates her own patterns, which are printed on fabric to make outfits and accessories. Her creations are available on various items (T-shirts, bags, sweatshirts, phone cases, etc.).
